Ideally, pupils with physical and sensory difficulties will have a TA
(Teaching Assistant) working with them who know the pupil well.
Some information for subject leaders to adapt the workshop to cater for
these pupils can include; changes in work heights, extended levers,
special grips for tools, non slip surfaces etc.
For pupils with intellectual difficulties, you might find that pupils
will have difficulties in listening to and remembering long or
complicated instructions and may be oblivious to potential hazards
in the workshop.
With a lot of my classes, I have developed simple step by step guides
and instructions for all my projects; some which are laminated and
available to the pupils and also put up on the board. You will find this
beneficial to you too, as you won't find yourself rewriting and
explaining the same instructions repeatedly, especially when completing
practical work and pupils are all at different stages!
